Young Chefs Academy

Emily went to the Young Chefs Academy for an afternoon of baking. The theme was cakes. In 3 hours, the kids baked a berry cream dessert, almond sponge cake, angel food cake (w/strawberries & whipped cream), a yellow cake, and a chocolate muffin w/chocolate frosting. Those women must be insane! haha! Although I was envious and would love to have 3 ovens in my kitchen.

My favorite was the angel food cake (strawberry shortcake in the end). Emily's fave was ofcourse the chocolate muffin w/icing as you can see evidenced all over her face. :-) She had a wonderful time.

Today at b-ball. C's team won 14-7.

snow day

We got a light dusting of snow last night. Emily was out by the time the sun came up. She couldn't wait to play in it. Good thing she did, since it melted pretty quickly. :-(

reminiscing...

The kids and I drug out their little baby bins over the weekend and looked through all the things I've been saving for them. I've kept a bin for each of them since their births. It's neat to go back and look at all the stuff we've saved over the years.

I found an old disk that had a folder with a few pictures of Emily when she was around 1-2 years old. In the first two she was 2 and the bottom pictures were on her 1st birthday. I can't believe how much she has grown. It's amazing how life has a way of happening and they grow and mature so quickly.

school and stuff

Curtis and Emily are still going to PE classes at the local Y in 6-week sessions that run through the whole year. Emily is also going to start homeschool swimming lessons at the same Y in a couple of weeks. Curtis has b-ball for the next couple of months. Our homeschool co-op classes start up again in early February so that will be a weekly thing. Curtis has signed up for a few days of volunteer work at SciWorks too. We are staying busy but having fun and enjoying what we do.

Emily has completed her math requirement for 1st grade! She is one chapter shy of completing social studies and science is almost done. Science is her favorite so I ordered another book from Alpha Omega - My Father's World for her to start on next. She started school in July so she got a bit of a head start this school year.

Curtis is moving right along with his subjects. He's been doing a lot with computers. Neal got him turned on to building a website and he is doing very well with that. He is more than halfway through on his core subjects and will likely finish by sometime in April or May, although we'll keep him busy until the end of May at least.

Both Curtis and Emily have CAT/5 testing in late March. At that point we can see what grade level they fit in at. They should both be right on the mark or even a little ahead.

My semester just started with school as well and I'm taking on 3 courses this semester.

Curtis worked at SciWorks on Sat for 2 hours volunteering. It was second Saturday Science. Hopefully this will become a monthly thing that he will be able to do. He seemed to really enjoy it. He also had basketball earlier in the day. They have skills class first and then they play a game at the end. Basketball will go on for two months. Emily enjoyed that as well because she had fun playing with the coaches little girls. The child makes friends everywhere she goes!

Emily and I visited the Children's Museum while Curtis was working and it was SO busy. I hated it. I didn't realize how nice it truly is as homeschooler's to be able to enjoy museums during the week while others are in school. ;-) It was a mad house of children running everywhere. Emily was a good sport even though she didn't get to enjoy the Krispy Kreme room or the Food Lion shopping room. We did have fun in the vet room and enjoyed some time building with Legos together.

Curtis and I saw the movie "Yes Man" on Sunday. It's a very cute movie, although a bit out there. It was good to spend some time together, which sounds funny since we're together 24/7 but we don't get enough one-on-one with each other these days. We ate at Taco Bell afterwards. Definitely a treat! That's a place I haven't been too in a very long time and a place I doubt we'll visit again for another long while. ;-)
