School

We started back to school this week. Well, Emily started her school on July 16th - but Curtis officially started this week. We sign up at the homeschool co-op later in the week for the classes they will be participating in. I also get to volunteer in a class of my choice. Later we sign up at the K'ville YMCA for phys ed classes. Curtis went last year. Again, it will be good to get back to a routine in school.

Today we made (tried to anyway) blueberry ink. However, it was a bit too liquidy (is that a word?) so it didn't turn out like I had hoped. They both had a good time writing on paper with it anyway. That made me feel good that they still got some enjoyment out of it.

We also made play-doh today! It was easy. We chose blue for the color. That's flour on the play-doh in the last picture. It came off as we kneaded it.

Pumpkins

We have another pumpkin vine growing in the yard beside the house. Last year we got 1 pumpkin off the vine. This year we have 2 pumpkins growing. Hopefully they'll both make it! I can't believe the vine is so long but has only produced 2 pumpkins.

New River & Galax, VA

We drove up to the Smoke on the Mountain Barbeque Championship in Galax, VA today. Then we drove to the New River Bike Trail and rode our bikes afterwards. Neal and I shared a beef briquet sandwich and a plate of barbeque from a place that had Memphis style barbeque. It was really good!

Levering Orchard

We went cherry picking this morning at http://www.leveringorchard.com/ in Ararat, VA. We picked a bucket of cherries and another smaller bunch of pie cherries. I'm going to try my hand at baking a cherry pie this weekend. I did okay with the peach pie a couple of weeks ago, so we'll see.

The professional getting to work...(heh)

huh? you want me to climb that ladder?

Me picking some pie cherries. Yes I climbed a ladder, well part of the way. I even climbed one tree. :-)
